spiritual audit

I received a spiritual audit which I have adapted from polar questions to more open ones. This may help us as we reflect on the year 2009 as it draws to a close ....

Spiritual Audit Question 1

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his evil generation; Noah walked in habitual fellowship with God. Genesis 6:8-9 (AB)

In what ways am I walking in habitual fellowship with God and enjoying His favour upon my life?

Spiritual Audit Question 2

But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:19-20 (NIV)

How can I interpret particular events in my life as if “God intended it for good” ?

Spiritual Audit Question 3

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:8-9 (NIV)

How am I strong and courageous in the face of life challenges, opportunities and complexities?

Spiritual Audit Question 4

For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall arise for the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this and for this very occasion? Esther 4:14 (AB)

In what ways has God placed me in a position of servant leadership and influence in my family, work, church, community or country ‘for such a time as this’?

Spiritual Audit Question 5

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)

In what ways am I experiencing my present and future plans to be secure in God, as I seek him with all my heart?

Spiritual Audit Question 6

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12-13 (NIV)

What more things do I really need in my life? How am I learning the secret of being content whatever the circumstance?

Spiritual Audit Question 7

"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. Malachi 3:8-9 (NIV)

How have I established a pattern of tithes and offerings in my life?

Spiritual Audit Question 8

But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

In what ways do I seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness in all that I do?

Spiritual Audit Question 9

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NIV)

Do I honor God by keeping my body holy in actions and attitudes? What do I need to change?

Spiritual Audit Question 10

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

How do I strive for a spirit of excellence in all my words or deeds?

Spiritual Audit Question 11

For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD "— and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:4-5 (NIV)

Which areas in my life that need the God’s healing, forgiveness and restoration?

Spiritual Audit Question 12

"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matthew 25:23 (NIV)

In what ways am I faithful in the little things that God has placed in my life?
